Success with Incandescent lamp

A couple nights ago, I put an incandescent lamp (60 watt) over the crabitat, and they loved it! The heat must have gave them a boost because they sprang up, and began eating and drinking. When the temp reached about 90 I removed the lamp, but they were still pretty active all night!

If you want to keep the temp up all the time, you can experiment with moving the lamp closer or farther away until you reach a nice level. I'd say about 75 overall is the best temp, but it can be warmer on one side of the tank and cooler on the other side. They do like warmth, and they like to bask under a heat source.

yeah I havea 60 watt (i believe) over the one side of my tank... it's a 20L. The temp stays at about 72 constantly and that way they can choose to be on the light side or the darker side... it also allows me to set up the tank so the water dishes are not directly under the light - that way they dont evaporate as quickly

Glad the lamp worked... but 90 is too high for a consistant temp. Back the light off a bit and that should help. Too high of a temp will eventually kill your crabs. Sounds like you already know this, but Im just making sure... better safe than sorry.

Petco sells a thermostat for heat lamps, i have one setup, and it works pretty well. Very easy to use. It costs about $30
