Is it safe to use terracotta pots in their crabitat?

I think C.A. made mention of clay pots being a good place for bateria to grow because the material can develope scrathces and such.I would think if the clay pot was bought brand new and never used for anything else it would be okay but I would wait for someone who has used this type of pot to eleaborate.

I used new clay pots in my tat and boil them in salt water about every 6-8weeks.

I used to use terracotta pots, but as Crabber85 pointed out they do tend to get microscopic cracks which can breed bacteria so I discontinued using them and switched to resin aquarium caves. If you can keep up with their cleaning as elsa does, you should be OK but still I would toss pots that get too many cracks in any case.
