I don't see last years post in the archives so I just wanted to warn users of Eco Earth bricks to carefully check your product before adding to the tank. Last year after hydrating it I was breaking up clumps by hand when I found a stiff chunk I couldn't break or bend. While attempting to do so I was poked by something quite sharp. I hoped it was a coconut fragment but because of the fine point feared otherwise and really couldn't remove the clumped EE from it as they seemed fused together so I set it down and waved a magnet over it which it immediately lept up to meet.I forwarded my picture and video along with an angry letter to Zoo Med about their lax screening process and the danger to customer pets and they assured me that they were forwarding my concerns to the quality control dept to reassess and tighten the screening process. These pictures were taken last July and I hope they have done as they promised but it never hurts to be safe. Bagged EE by the way is like working with a bag of dust. I don't like it at all, and my coconut fiber choice is Forest Bed when I can find it.http://i32.photobucket.com/alb...2/Crab ... I_1909.flv

I was just hydrating my EE for my 90 and found a hard piece of green plastic. At least it wasn't a nail, but still not a good thing to find.

I always find small pieces of fabric in it. I usually expect it now, since I always seem to get ones with fabric lol. I wonder how on earth a rusty nail got into it?

In one, I did find a few small pieces of glass in it after it had hydrated. They were fairly smooth, but needless to say, I was less than pleased.
