Best type of lid is????

What's the best type of lid? My mom was going out to take me today to get a plexi but the problem is that...how am i supposed to be able to pull the top off? have a guy cut a piece for your fingers to fit into, or what? Then you just drill holes for air, how many holes?I've measured on the inside of the tank, theres like this little catch thing I measured the inside part, the _ on the picture. --_ _-- Right now I'm using saran wrap which works good but I have to have my UTH on 24/7 and I don't want to burn it out. I also heard the black fish hoods and glass are good too. Is there any other options besides these 4?But whats the best for holding in humidity and temperature? Then if I could get an estimate of a price on them.....I have a 10gal. Any advice or suggestions would totally be appreciated!!

Glass lids are probably best, but plexi-glass are a close second, I think. I think just a couple of drilled finger holes would be fine for air cirrculation. I've heard of various prices for glass lids, so don't know what that'll run you, but plexi-glass is cheap; less than $5 I believe.

If you use heat light, like I do, you might want to look into getting a piece of tempered glass to fit your tank. I use two extra sheets of glass from agricultural light hoods. I've cracked regular glass lids with the wattages I run in winter time, up to 90 watts per lid.

A UTH won't crack your lid. Plexiglass should work fine for you, with just a couple of holes drilled, for a fingerhole to lift it and maybe one other for ventilation. Just make sure none of your crabs can fit thru the holes. Glass works great, but can be expensive. If you know anyone that knows about cutting glass, you might be able to get them to cut a lid from window glass or something similar, but plexiglass is a lot easier.
