Mold ?

Hi all!! Can anyone help me. I know I saw a link somewhere about a product you can put on the bottom of driftwood or grape vine to help seal it. My grapevine sits on part of the EE and it always molds in that area. Does anyone know of such a product. Also, how do I clean the vine. Do I wash it in salt water? I have read something about baking it, but at what temp and for how long? Is this common with the vine? Can you recommend something diffrent for them to climb on? Any help would be very greatful. Thank You, Thank You!!

Boiling or soaking the vine in salt water will help to prevent mold. Cork bark is great for the crabs to climb, as well as branches from oak, birch, beech, hazel, apple and pear tree if you have access to untreated trees.

People have used aquarium silicone to seal the parts of the wood that is touching their substrate.There's another great wood that I've had, unbaked, in my tank since February without a speck of mold -- it's a swamp dwelling tree and is very fungus proof. It's taxodium cypress. It's not a true cypress, so it's not toxic to the crabs, and the larger pieces are often hollow. I have a lovely half log that has several hollow branch holes that is used as a communal hidey.You can find it here:http://www.blackjungle.com/Merchant2/me ... I use ghost wood in my poison arrow frog terrarium and I love it. It's definitely mold-proof at 80-100% humidity all the time in the terrarium.
