buying shells
buying shells
I have been buying my supplies for several years from the hermitcrabpatch. My crabs have gotten pretty big and they need polished turbo shells with 1 3/16" and 1 1/4" openings. I have seen some on Amazon but it is not clear if the opening measurements are very accurate. I am wondering if anyone has a good site to buy these. Also, I want to move them up to a larger tank. I was hoping to find a 29-30 gallon tank. Unfortunately, I have only found ones that are 6 inches longer than my current 20 gal. and the rest of the measurements are the same. I would like to find something taller than the current 17" for more substrate and more climbing. All I can find are reptile enclosures with front doors. Any suggestions? Thanks, Nancy

Re: buying shells
Can't help much wid shells, I'm new to crabbies, BUT... have you tried Naples?
Regarding tanks:
http://www.aquariumdimensions.com/ ...this is a handy chart of standard dimensions (though finding them for sale can be another matter depending on where you live).
Sounds like you have a 20 'High' (as opposed to Long), and only going up ten gallons you can't get both higher & much longer.
A 30 Extra High is about 7-8 inches higher, but it isn't longer... just the math of the thing.
If you go up to a 37 Gallon, you start to get more of what it seems you're looking for. Those retail for $140 on Amazon (
), but I've seen them for $95 at a large aquarium hobby store (In Canada).
Good luck!

Joann's Fabric and Michael's sell them, you could either go to the store and look or check out their websites.
