Florida Marine Research

Post by ROSIEonFIRE » Tue Sep 19, 2017 9:20 pm

Wow. I just can't believe the nerve of these people. It doesn't appear that they do ANY research. Their care sheet says TWO CRABS PER 1 GALLON IS IDEAL and every 'tat' they sell is a 5"x5" wire mesh torture chamber!

Please excuse my rant. The only thing that gets me more steamed than nakedly exploiting animals without any regard to their well being is nakedly exploiting animals without any regard to their well-being while trying to pass yourself off as a conservation agency. I found these people by stumbling across an old post about the 'National Crab Racing Association' which is a partner of theirs, of course.

Please, please please dear crab gods please let someone figure out a viable, reliable way to raise hermit crabs in captivity.

It's similar to ZooMed selling and endorsing known harmful substrates for reptiles, while passing themselves off as experts and bring a huge part of USARK which is supposed to be an advocacy group for reptile keepers.

Anything to make a buck .

Yups.

And people write letters/send emails to these companies all the time. They just don't care.

In my experience, you're better off trying to educate your local pet stores.... politely, of course.

its all so wall bashingly frustrating. just like woodsorel was saying, 85% of ANYTHING on the market for exotics is the wrong stuff. why? why all the calc sand with pics of hermit crabs on it? why not just, like, play sand? its probably cheaper. why all the pics of crested geckos in long footprint aquariums? why not just put a picture of basically any other reptile on there? etc etc...
