Dr's Foster and Smith

Post by soilentgringa » Sat Nov 15, 2014 10:22 am

I hadn't really seen a lot of people talking about getting their crab supplies from this site, BUT, I just ordered the following products listed below and paid less than $100.00, and received the items very quickly.

One Zilla hinged screen cover: $19.99 (55 gallon)
Two night bulbs (red) for heating 60W
Two day bulbs for heating 60W (both sets incandescent)
One double mini dome lamp
One large lamp stand $19.99

All of these items together were about $88.00 which to me seems less expensive than a lot of the other places I looked. I can't find my receipt now so I don't remember exactly what the bulbs cost but I think they were less than $5.00 a piece.

I plan on ordering my bubbler supplies from them as well.

I use them a lot for hardware for the critters and fish. Had problems with a set of hides and dishes for my snake - not their fault, the stuff was defective - and they took care of everything and refunded me to where I didn't loose a penny from the purchase. You can't find customer service like that anymore! :) My only complaint is that they downsized their reptile and fish departments recently and they don't always have everything I'm looking for.

I've been ordering from them for years, mostly for dog supplies and a few things for my fish. They do have good customer service. I recently ordered a prescription anti-inflammatory for my dog and they made the process so easy. Plus the c/s rep made sure to offer me the sale price from another recent catalog so that saved me some money [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

I've been learning to shop around for crab supplies; I found aquarium tubing and a pump on Amazon that are a couple of dollars more, but with Amazon Prime I have free shipping so it works out to be less than Drs F&S on that one. I'm still looking for turbo shells with openings between 1 1/8" and 2" for the larger crabs. Naples is out of them in tapestry/jade turbos and it seems like I checked a couple of other places that were out as well.

I was about to order from Hermit Crab Garden, it's unfortunate that you guys are having computer problems! However I do look forward to everything being back up and running again. We've had success with the Hermit Crab Addicition's food mixes, I am constantly finding one crab or another sitting in the dish stuffing it's maw.

We've gotten 99% of our shells from Naples. Amy is really nice and the customer service is great.

The only place we've found to get crabs from locally are PetSmart, Petco, and a kiosk at Town East Mall in Mesquite and I spent 20 minutes trying to explain to the gentleman running the stand why the crabs were suffocating on the gravel bed in open air with a few sponges scattered about. My son freaked out and yelled at him for killing the crabs. :-| We were looking for maybe some E's to add in or Strawberries as I become more experienced, but after reading everything about LHC I'm not sure we would go that route.

I buy a lot from Foster & Smith and for the most part have been very happy with everything. My dogs' RX meds/Frontline/Heartgard, cat supplement treats, cat toys, my fish aquariums, and most recently a gigantic Exo Terra terrarium. They often have the best prices around and I'm usually placing a large order so the free shipping over $49 offer comes in handy.
