Re: Alaska Hermit food store open for business! :D
You can, but it'll cost the same per baggy. They were hand caught wild, and it took forever, so that's why they are priced that high, and I don't have a whole lot of them. What's in my store is what I have.
If you want dried fishies for cheap, I know they make cat treats that are whole dehydrated fish. You can also go to your local pet store and ask for their dead fish, and they will give them to you for free! My guys go nuts for dead feeder fish. They stink, but they love it.

Not anymore. After we read up on Canada's customs, we decided it was way too risky.

Re: Alaska Hermit food store open for business! :D
Just an announcement!!
If you want stuff shipped before Dec 20th, please order soon! I go out of town on Dec 22, and get back on Dec 31. I can ship more packages then, but I leave town AGAIN on Jan 5th, and won't be back until Jan 18th.
So...any order placed BEFORE Dec 20 will be shipped before that date.
Any order placed AFTER Dec 20 and BEFORE Jan 4 will be shipped Jan 1-4.
Any order placed AFTER Jan 4 will be shipped after Jan 18.
Also, if you want to wait until late January to order, I will be bringing back any goodies I find on the beach. This includes more of these: http://alaskahermit.com/product/xxxl-size-clam-shell/ for sure, and hopefully (cross your fingers and toes) more king crab exo, and AK hermit crab exo. Though, they aren't as easy to find in the winter, hence the required crossing of digits.
The announcement should be on my site homepage today or tomorrow.

Re: Alaska Hermit food store open for business! :D
Wodes, I have so many beach shells I could send you. I have a whole box of large gastropod shells that aren't pretty enough for me to display (I only display the bestest ones I find), and aren't good enough for the crabs if you want to "pick" through them. Most are broken, but they still look ok. I'd just charge for shipping to get them out of the house. Let me know if you're interested. I could send them soon, or you could pick through and I could set them aside to send later with the giant clam shells. If you wanted a lot of clam shells, I could mark them down like $1 off each. Can't do much more than that since they take up a lot of room and weight in my suit case.
Another option would be if I shipped them from Juneau. I could charge you a lot less for them (maybe half price like $2.50 since they are still heavy and I have to carry them a long distance), but that means I wouldn't be able to combine shipping with the shells I have here. I dunno. Maybe you could tell me what you're thinking.

Re: Alaska Hermit food store open for business! :D
I never did share photos, did I?
That first night when they scoured it clean:
And the tank now (you can see where it could use more wolf decor ) :
I was really hoping to get a few more of something big and interesting to sink into that tank. I'll often have four or five fids fighting to stay underneath the one you sent! They love it, and there's always baby guppies in and around it for safety as well. Eventually we'll be building another land section (if I can keep it from flooding!) and the cocohuts didn't work so well with all the wetness, so shells would be a better hide. There should also be a ramp and a ledge back in place, and that could use something on top as well. I honestly don't like the big shiny shells from the craft store so I haven't got anything yet - I love the look of ocean worn, and I think it smells like home to the fids.
(Also, I HATE the white murex I have in there and would love to replace them! The natural moon shells that we got a friend who went to the beach are so much nicer. The fids love to use them as instant hides though so until I find something better.....)
