Wow, she certainly hiked up the price for blues. And $30 for Aussies! That price plus the shipping makes them quite the investment.

I think I'll just get some violas and Ruggies for now.... $30 a crab? Sheesh. You'd think preordering would be cheaper too.

I'm betting it was pricey jumping through the hoops to get Aussies imported. I thought I had read it was rare to find people in the US with Aussies. Maybe that's why the higher price??? I haven't been able to find blues anywhere and I have read about other members having the same problem~ so I don't care what they cost. :) Cavipes I'm just curious about. Then I will have every species (I can find) besides E's, and I can get those, but I've read too many bad stories and I'm afraid to put them in any of my current tanks. Soooo excited!

My husband will kill me, but I preordered 3 blues. $100 for three crabs is terrible!

I ordered 5 blues. I've been preparing my husband (and a cute 5 year old face helps) that if we ever found them we'd order them immediately. :) He may start looking for crabs anonymous for me though.

If you can't find them elsewhere, that explains the price hike!

That and I'm sure it's not cheap for her to import, care for, and ship them all out. Plus time consuming with permits etc. There's got to be a reason why more people aren't in that business. ;)

Okay Mom23 (and all you other Strawberry owners out there!) I'm getting some coenobita perlatis.... I had to convince husband first (not about the actual crab, he has just been waiting for me to agree to a couple... or a few... but, about spending the $ at a time where my pups chemo bills are... ugh! :( )

I'm REALLY excited!!

how many did you have? Are they hardier than straws? From what I read on here straws only last 1-3 years are the blues as bad?

I've only lost 1 straw in 2 years. I lost 5 blues within 3 months. I think it was an issue with the shipment of crabs, not so much the species. They also spent at least 3 months at the pet store in cold horrible, turtle style tank conditions.

Regardless, her prices are still terrible, especially after what she pulled last year. She just knows we are willing to pay it. At least she put "preorder" so this time we know we'll be waiting forever.
