LHC is closing?! I was really wanting to get an exotic from their site but all they have right now is an Aussie, which isnt what I'm looking for...Theyre the only site ive found so far with strawberry and blueberry crabs. Such a bummer!hermitcrabdc wrote:Reptile city: http://www.reptilecity.com/Merchant2/me ... ode=HERMIT
I don't think there are any others that sell and ship directly to your home. Segrest Farms ships their products to pet stores. You'd have to find a store they ship to in order to buy from them. http://www.segrestfarms.com/index.cfm?f ... op.locator
I can't think of any other stores. LHC is closing from what I've heard and the HCP hasn't sold hermit crabs for a few years now.
Hope this helps
Try Segrest. Throw in your zip code in that link, you might be able to get a store near you to order in some violas or straws...I actually don't know all the species they sell. It's worth a shotkhs12 wrote: LHC is closing?! Ditto! They really are a badly organized company. I would avoid them at all costs.Read the thread posted about LHC in the Reviews forum section. Even if they weren't closing, I don't think you'd want to bother ordering. No one's been getting their crabs or any updates, & people have had a ton of trouble trying to open disputes & get their money back from her.

edit: They sell blues, straws, E's, and PPs. Ditto! They really are a badly organized company. I would avoid them at all costs.
Its a site called live hermit crabs and they ship crabs to you over night. I watched a lot of unboxing videos on YouTube for their site, mostly straws being ordered. A lot of people did seem unhappy with it simply because they package the little dears in this tiny brown, potato sack looking bag with zip ties and stuff em with moss and cheerios.Allyb01 wrote:What is LHC?
Proud owner of 6 PPs,Twinkie, Tweedles, Tiny, Nugget, Squidgy, and Bumbie!
As far as I know, yes, you need to contact the store that can order in Segrest products (any of the ones listed after entering your zip code) and ask if they can order the specific species you want. I don't know if anyone has ever gotten exotics this way, but if you really want them you can try. good luckkhs12 wrote: I guess I'm not quite understanding how segrest works. So after I put my zipcode in and it finds stores for me, what then? It just shows the stores addresses and maps. Do I need to email the store in my area or do I contact segrest? Sorry if that's a dumb question!

We have gotten around 30 Purple Pinchers in the last year. It is my personal opinion that unless you are an experienced crabber with a couple of years under your belt and the ability to weather any crab emergency and been through several molts, you should wait before getting exotics. They are more delicate in some respects, especially straws, and require stable temps with very little fluctuations or drops. They don't live as long in captivity and need some more specific care. While most land hermit crabs do need almost the same care, exotics need more space, deeper sub, and some require different ratios of sub to ee and others may need UVB lighting and larger saltwater pools.
Please note that is my personal opinion. I do know many other crabbers who feel this way but I can't speak for them here.
I've been crabbing for a year and am just now seeing some types of injuries for the first time. I've never (knock wood) had a flood or any other egregious incident but I still do not feel like I should own exotics yet.
