So what are your opinions on this? Good or bad idea to try and buy these?

I would highly suggest not buying those. Shipping is stressful on hermit crabs. I would only suggest mail shipments if the crabs were exotic and were coming from a reliable company. Those crabs being sold are not exotic, you can get Purple Pinchers at any pet store that has hermit crabs. It's not worth it.

Whelp...
Firstly, neither of the crabs in that picture are purple pinchers, which the company is selling. They used a stock image - so this add/company is off to a bad start.
(The crabs look like an equadorian & a strawberry respectively.)

Secondly, shipping is often a bad idea because temperatures can rise & fall from region to region, imperilling your crab, so many people don't recommend shipping.

Finally, the other products recommended for crabs by the company are garbage & an annoying waste of money; most hermit crab branded products (eg. calcium sand, hermit salt water & treatmants, most pellet food, habitats sold for hermits, etc.) are inadequate. The preposterously small 2 gallon habitat sold by this company and recommended in the add is just plain inhumane. Crabs cant moult in that. And did I mention it's obscenely small? Because it is obscenely small.

I give this add & company a D. I'd give it a -D, but the shells they offer look okay.

Edit - Also, check out all the negative reviews... lots of dead crabs. :(

I would not recommend it. It said that this company ships the hermit crabs in shredded paper, and only sends them via Priority Mail. I'm not one to promote shipping, but if it has to be done, in my opinion, overnight is the only option - and even then only if it's necessary.

Do you not have hermit crabs at your local pet stores?

If you are really thinking about it I would watch YouTube reviews I wanted a few before adopting my bunch just so you'd know what you were getting. From what I've seen, they put the crabs in a plastic cup and then shredded newspaper on top (to keep from shaking too much?) Honestly I feel like it'd be so dry inside that little cup and I can't imagine that ink being good for them to eat/inhale/be covered in. They have policies on if they die in transit but that's just sad. (One persons opinion)

LJJ, it specifically says pets (no details) are prohibited. Crustaceans ans shellfish are allowed, I'm guessing as bait and food.

It's so messed up how they can't twist the rules. No one is ordering hermit crabs for bait. Not cool Amazon

Do not go looking this for this unless you want to be absolutely horrified, but yes, hermits are used as bait in saltwater fishing. I doubt any fisherman would want those at that price though.
