Had two matings in my tank today. :)

This area is dedicated to the pioneers who have captive bred crabs, and for those who wish to learn more or attempt it themselves. Also for inquiring about the gender of your crabs.

Had two matings in my tank today. :)

Goji had a lady pinned and no one was even trying to get in on that action. You can just see her peeking out from between his legs:

The other ones were up in the shell shop. I originally saw them going at each other and couldn't figure out why, since there are no new crabs and I've never seen any of them fight like this over a shell, and then I realized there was a lady tucked under the one on the left and he wasn't letting anyone near her, or letting her go anywhere, either!

I always feel sorry for the gals. It's like Fifty Shades of Red up in that tank when the boys get started...

Anyway, I got a video of the boys fighting. They were seriously duking it out, and while they had plenty of chances to end it, they just kept picking on the other until it started up again. You can see that medium attempt to get in on that action and then hastily reconsider!

I'll try on the laptop. It's neat to see the boys duking it out. And a bit nerve racking.

Edit: Nope. This is what the page says when I click the link:
Sorry, something went wrong.

We're working on it and we'll get it fixed as soon as we can.

I was trying to figure out why they were doing it before I broke them up. They were in an easy to watch spot and I could get to them fast if it got really ugly. I don't like to leave tempers flaring when I can't be there to sit and watch. Honestly, I kept waiting for one to get the upper hand and for it to be over, but they would sort of move off a bit, and then one - both the winner or looser! - would go for the other again. It was so weird!

Neat! Thanks for putting it up on YouTube.

That's a lot like how Cinnamon and Collins were. They wouldn't back down for long. No one ever got hurt though.
