Pictures of my crabitats (Successful Viola Breeding)

This area is dedicated to the pioneers who have captive bred crabs, and for those who wish to learn more or attempt it themselves. Also for inquiring about the gender of your crabs.

Absolutely fascinating Curlz! And your setup! Gee whiz! It's wonderful!!!

I'm such a newb at this that I'll be excited if all four of my crabs survive their first molt with me...and your pics are inspiring for me to learn more and more so maybe in a few years I'll have enough knowledge to maybe make them happy enough to breed too. :) Please keep sharing pics!

thank you very much :)

Yes keep on learning and breeding. You are in Australia, than the breeding project of Natalie (Nat Addicted To HCs) may help you, too. She successfully bred C. variabilis (Aussies(

Your photos are so amazing!

Do you have plans to continue trying to breed the crabs?

;)

@courtbri: here in Germay I have found a very good shell shop and they have had such tiny shells!! God bless them! Without them I could not do it.
Some are out of "marine coral sand" packages. Some are from beaches round the world. Some are gifts for my project ;)

@ sofiaee: yes of course!
When I get eggs of any of my hermits, we will do it again and try and try and try!

But at the moment no eggs are "work in progress". I have lost a violascens male. He was the father of most of my violas eggs.... :(
And my other species do not mate, as it seems.
Some are too young, some are without fitting male or female. Some are digged for molting etc.

We are about to built up bigger tanks (like the old ones - connected and with water pool) and then I will try to get some more hermits. To have males/females that fits to the other...to have eggs again :)

I bought a used 125 last week. It still had gravel and whatnot in it from the fish it held previously. In the gravel there was a lot of teeny shells. I think they are marine hermit crab shells. Could you use them? There are a lot of them.
#1 rule of crabbing - crabs are weird.

@ KellyCrabbieLove: At the moment I have a few tiny tiny tiny shells.

There are some LHC fans in the USA and Canaca who may also try to breed. I think it would be better to collect them, clean them and wait for breedings attemps in USA or Canada.
But I keep it in mind, if I am runnung out of shells and when I do not get some here.

How big are the babies now? They are adorable! And I love your white blueberry crab.
Also, I need to try a tunnel between tanks. That is amazing.
