Seriously though - there is a market for captive bred animals even when wild caught are available, and if it's difficult to do then the prices can be much higher than what a wild caught specimen would be - with the idea that the captive bred specimens are more likely to survive and thrive. There are always going to be a subset of hobbyist who are more concerned about how they obtained their pet then the cost of getting it. It's a niche market, but it exists.

I completely agree with wode. In my short time here and knowledge extremely limited, it seems as though captive bred hermits are practically non-existent. Rare. People pay ridiculous prices to get the first of anything. Take a piece of a fruit tree cutting (a stick) for example. Apparently people have paid over $1000 on 3 sticks of some hot ticket, up and coming fig tree variety. Three sticks that might not even produce.

Anyway, I would pay $60 for a long-time family member from someone who truly cares for the hobby. And like wode said, I would feel so much more confident raising a captive bred.

I would be willing to spend the money and buy a pair if it meant no PPS problems.

These are nice thoughts, but it was my tenth try. PPs normally breed only once a year. This time I had about 20.000 larvae from several females in one night. Now I have at least 25 little crabs from that amount.
Even if I would consider to breed them for business, that's nothing to live from.

But I promise, I will try and try again, if I have new larvae.
That's the best we all can do.

Beside my hermit crabs I own several species of Geosesarma-crabs. Most of their breeding's I gave to other crabbers (for little money). That's what I'm going to do with the little hermits as well. Since I now have over 30 adults, 25 new crabs are seriously to much for my crabitat. When the little crabs are much older and bigger - in about two or three years -, I will look for some good people with neat crabitats to care for them.

Once the weather is nice enough I would totally buy at least 2 so since you put a price maybe we can work it out later this next year.

Naalide and Curlz are unfortunately in Germany. To import an animal legally and properly into the USA, it takes hundreds to thousands of dollars in import permits and airline flight fees. It's illegal and dangerous to simply send them through the mail.

That is something I was wondering about, I guess I'm going to do what I always do... Become totally engulfed in what ever my focus becomes, I suppose I should just start trying to walk in our German friends foot steps....

@all: Of cause I wouldn't ship them, even if it would be aloud. Shipping would cause PPS.

And that's the main reason, why it's so hard to make sharp pictures of them. They are to fast to get them in focus.

If I were ever lucky enough to breed successfully I would buy my babies their own giant tank. They would be so spoiled. Even my husband who is indifferent to the crabs coos over these babies.
