Oh. My. Goodness. It's a baby crab. How big would you say she is?

Tiny tiny. That white spot on the shell is actually a grain of sand. The "log" its walking on is a stick that is about the size of my thumb (1cm wide)kieagcarm wrote:Oh. My. Goodness. It's a baby crab. How big would you say she is?

Wednesday 28th December Day 25
Well things have been very ordinary for the last couple of days. Little crabs running all over the place. Anytime I look I see between 4 and 13 so not sure how many are still alive. A couple of shells have stayed in one place though so suspect they may be empty.
I could see last night where a few were burrowed down.

One of them on the fresh water pool. This is a natural sea sponge in there to stop them drowning.

2 are on the food shell. Food is beta grains crushed seeing it isn't soaked in the water, spirulina powder, dehydrated and powdered mango, powdered cuttlebone and some crushed meal worms.

So these guys might look cute and make everyone go awwww but nature has a way of bringing everything back to survival. Sadly I found one little guy caught in the fresh water pool. Another was crawling over the top of him. I used tweezers to fish him out just in case but it was clear he had drowned. But I put him on the sand to make sure. Not very long after that the one who had been climbing on him in the pool went over to that spot and started eating him. I took about 4 minutes of video and he was still chowing down stuffing all that yummy protein in with both claws as fast as his tiny mouth could swallow.
While it is sad that one less will make it that one was still jelly and not coloured and its eye stalks were still puffy. The victor however is well coloured and will benefit greatly from such a good feed.
This video is taken with my phone of the playback on the computer screen.

I guess it does prove that survival of the fittest. A bit disheartening, but regardless the amount of success you have does outweigh this setback. Not to mention, you did catch an interesting vid.

I actually think this will enhance the stronger ones chances of survival.

Yep! Great source of protein for the other little guy and will only make him stronger. Sad for the other little one but a crab's gotta do what a crab's gotta do to survive! Love all of your videos!! Thanks so much for sharing ![](http://emoji.tapatalk-cdn.com/emoji7.png)
