Have him tape one end of the tube into the bucket to make sure it doesn't go anywhere so he can focus on the babies instead. He'll only need to glance down to make sure the bucket isn't too full so it doesn't overspill. Or, put the bucket on a stool or chair so more of the hose fits inside. The end of the output tube only has to be an inch lower than the end of the tube in the tank for it to work. I don't think they sell them separately, but some syphons come with a clip that attaches it to the bucket so it doesn't get away: http://www.petco.com/product/114921/Aqu ... eaner.aspx But a small piece of duct tape would do the same thing.

Also, the lower the bucket is the faster the water moves. If he's having a lot of trouble then try the chair trick as it'll slow the flow a bit and make the reaction time easier for him to dodge babies.

Tell him that hubby and I wish him a happy birthday!! :) (If he even knows who we are. ) Glad you'll be having fun this weekend. :)

And to you - CONGRATS! 20 Days. :D New home record!!

I'll be away for two weeks (until Aug 20). I'll still try to keep you guys updated. My husband is semi-competent with a macro lens, and I have an extra DSLR here for him to use, so I'm hoping he can take pics. :)

I think my husband would probably like to do the duct tape. I'm going to have him do a water change by himself today to make sure he can do it, and I'll have him tape the tube.

We definitely figured out the height thing with the bucket. When we were able to stack two salt buckets on a folding chair and then put the water on top, we had a serious baby tornado. I try to aim it into a corner and a little upward to help with that.

I'll give him birthday wishes when he gets home today. He knows who you are. You go by a few names: "my HCA friend who is going to have babies, too" or "my HCA friend who has all the pet bugs" or "my HCA friend who sent the huge bags of leaves", etc.

Tomorrow they will be three weeks old!! They're doing pretty good! :D I can't wait to see stage 6!! My goodness! Tiny inky dinky claws. It will be awesome. I just hope they will still be swimmers...? I need to read more. I need to keep cleaning shells, too. I've been giving the shells that are broken or contain dessicated snails to my adult hermies. They are so funny with them. Some will crunch them and eat them, and others will pick them up, and seriously push them away! So strange.

Aren't they going to be crawling out and molting in your elevated sandbox any day now? Then how do their stages go after that?

Breathe! :)

(Of course, I'm over here jumping around like an idiot at those pictures! :) )

You are doing so much for them! You're filling their stomachs, giving them clean water to live in, allowing them the time they need to molt and grow. :D You have shells ready for them (are they ready for shells now??), and you'll have land for them when they're ready to walk.

You also get to dance around like an idiot and brag to anyone who will listen! :D

Boiling the shells, now! Good thing I have a tiny pot to boil water in. I set up the ramp and sandbox. It's so bubba. lol. It's sitting on 4ft of lego totes and text books.

Oh! And I saw my first cannibalism. A superman guy was eating a live other dude.
