Oh lord, can you imagine how confusing the terminology would get if (IF) we could cross breed?
"what you do have?" "one violaberry, two indorians, and a few struggies" "oh neat, I can only find purpudorians and rindos where I live"

@kuza: yes that's right! I can take DNA of my adults and of the breedings. And than they can compare the DNAs :)

thx :)

@JamesR: the plants are in the soil in which I bought them. I buy plants, put them in a separate terrarium or on my windowsill. I water them a few weeks, to get the fertilizer and other toxins out of the soil.
Then I put the plants into the terrariums. But I leave them in their pots. (That's why the do not last very long ;) )

Up until about 4 hours ago I thought this was impossible because I had read many many blogs that said it was, but since I found this page and a few others of babies that didn't quite make it I'm suddenly very jealous and wishing I had baby hermit crabs lol. I love your crabs and your crabitat set up is amazing! :-) I hope to have babies hermit crabs someday hopefully in the near future! :-)

The tanks are amazing and the hermit crabs are soooo cute! THANK YOU for showing me connecting tanks is possible!!! I often wish i could think of a way to make connected tanks much like hamster cages but always came to the conclusion that they would get stuck or the tube would break. But you have figured it out!

thank you :)

We have got a company who build up terrarium (called glazier?). We told them what we need. Special dimensions. And that we need to connect two terrarium with an acrylic tunnel.
He cut a rectangular hole in the side wall. Only while building up a terrarium the glazier can cut the glass. When it is ready, the glass can break. Very risky.
We put in a natural cork back wall over the rectangular holes, within the holes we cut a circle to put the tunnel through. So that the tunnel fits stable enough and can not slip out.

Hope you can imagin what I mean.

Wonderful thread Curlz! Those are some pretty amazing crabitats!
Any updates?
By the way, what do you feed your baby crabs? Is there diet any different than the adult crabs?

thank you :)

There are no updates in my terrariums. I only change some living plants sometimes. They are a real wreckin' crew! :)
The breedings are too tiny to destroy the living plants, not yet ;)

Updates @ breedings?
The breedings are doing well. Some of them just changed to other bigger houses. They are growing and doing all things the adult ones do ;)

Since they came out of the water to stay on land I feed them like my adult ones. Only difference was that the breedings get more of the frozen Krill (the got frozen krill in the breeding water tank - and the Kreiseltank before)
They get fresh fruits like banana, persimmon, papaya, pineapple, apple, strawberry and much more. The get fresh fish, frozen fish, king prawns. Red mosquito larvae, mealworms, shrimps. Some sorts of nuts and some sorts of pellets (for example pellets for young iguanas, for LHCs, crabs & shrimps) etc.
And they get eggshell, sepia and chalk.
