Thursday 15th December 2016 Day 12
0830 this morning when I checked water quality it was so close to normal that I left it to give the brine shrimp a little more time. I could however, see some that had already hatched.
Jar 1 there was very little evidence of life at all so either most crabs are in shells as would be expected or have died and vanished.
Jar 2 Clearly a couple in shells and some seriously trying out shells and moving them around etc. Also, saw some that looked like they were fighting (trying to eat) each other but may have been shell fights.
Thursday (Day 12) Update. I left the water change till 12 midday. Had put brine shrimp eggs in yesterday and they have hatched. So water I syphon off now will go into a new jar and be kept warm so the rest can hatch or grow. Not much sign of life in Jar 1 but they should be in shells by now. No bodies either so that's a good sign. Jar 2 has heaps of activity and some in shells. Wish I could get a photo but they are just so tiny the camera can't focus on them even with my macro lens (due to the thick glass of the jar I think and also the movement of the water.
All in all things are progressing as expected.
Transition tank is stable at 29c and 95% humidity. BUT the water in those pools is 30c which is about 4 degrees too warm. Have taken the insulation off to see if that drops the water temp. Also removed the 7w mat and just have a 16w (but it doesn't feel as warm as the 7W one)

I'd love to do that but I have to get salt water for them and food for myself and generally other stuff around the house.

Sure can and the shells are tiny... ie the ones you pick out of bird shell grit.
