I don't think I'll be able to get a picture- they're tiny and move very fast and I haven't seen any at all since I saw the two on his shell. All I know is they're pale and look a lot like the non-harmful mites on the mite link.
And yeah, I normally love bugs and I have a high insect tolerance (I'm the designated insect-rescuer at school, home, and work; if anyone sees a spider or other bug they scream for me until I take it outside with a cup/my hand (unless it's a black widow, I can't bring myself to kill bugs.)) But the minute there was a possibility they could be bad for my crabs I freaked out.
I've had Pluto in ISO for two days now and bathed him twice in salt water. I might move him back over to the main tank tomorrow.
I'm just uneasy because I don't want the mites to hurt him if I'm mistaken and they're actually the bad kind but I didn't give a good enough description. This is really stresssing me out, but then again it's just one more thing on top of tons of other things that are making me stressed. I love my babies and I just don't want them to get hurt.
Quick question- do predatory mites kill food mites too?

Re: Help! Mites on my crab!
I think that the predatory mites kill the food mites, but I'm not positive. Try not to stress. I know it's easier said than done.
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com

Re: Help! Mites on my crab!
Okay, I'll move him back to the main 'tat in the morning. I'm now convinced that they're harmless mites and will go away on their own. But honestly, it seems mites are the least of my worries with my crabbies, now I'm trying to figure out how to insulate the ultratherm and battling fuzzy white mold that keeps cropping up on my grapevine. To top it all off, Apollo is buried somewhere to molt and I'm not sure if I installed the new water dish right over him... let's hope he figures out how to dig around it if that's the case.
On the bright side, humidity is great, Pluto is more way more outgoing and healthier than when I got him, and I'm on spring break so I can watch his cute antics. Man, I've got to try thinking positive more often... it's much better than worrying myself to death.
You really have a point with the stress thing, though, you aren't the first (and certainly won't be the last) person who told me to relax and stop stressing. I tell myself that all the time, because this stressing doesn't get me anywhere at all. I'm trying to wean myself off of panicking over every little thing but old habits die hard. If there was an award for worrying about the most things at the same time I would get first place, but I'm hoping somewhere in the not so distant future I'll reduce my stressing to conserve energy.
Mostly I stress about my crabbies; being a new crab mom, I just want to do everything right for them. They've been through so much already and I want them to have a wonderful life with me. But I think they'd rather me chill out and consult you pros here on HCA instead of running around in a tizzy.

He's back in main crabitat. I gave him a saltwater bath and then let him go back into the crabitat, where he made a beeline for his favorite place: the jar-cave. He's hiding out in there looking awfully cute.

Sounds like you are doing everything you can! Sometimes when we focus on things too much we find things to stress about
