Little black bugs

Post by Emilaz » Sun May 15, 2022 11:02 pm

Hi all about a month when I was changing out food I seen some white bugs and 1 black bug. I was told a food mite and springtails. So the next day I boiled everything I could moved the food to the second layer. I hadn't seen anymore until tonight when changing the food and water I seen one white bug in the food which was about 2 hours ago well I just went in and checked on the tank and I don't see anymore of the white bugs but now on the water bowl I see the black bugs. I was able to get a video of them they are so very small they look like a speck of dirt but you can see them move. The video is zoomed in a lot.

2 questions are they springtails? Reason why I'm questioning it is since seeing the bugs I haven't seen a single crab which is so not normal all 4 were always very active. I had 3 down molting when I first seen the bugs and they have always been on the same molt schedule (2 are captive bred babies) max molt was 5.5 weeks it has been around 12 weeks now for those 3. The night I spotted the bugs the first time my bug crab went under and again he hasn't been seen either. I know they can molt for a long time but I just have a really bad feeling. Everything in the tank is good but the bugs we have had the 2 big guys for almost a year and the babies since August.

Please help identify the bug they are small and I can't imagine they could eat the crab but I am not sure if they can cause other issues.

Have you had a look at the 'bugs' care sheet, to see if you can identify them?
Or are you able to post a photo?

You can either use a photo sharing site, or the Tapa Talk app to post a photo.
