Clear Bug - Mite?

Post by Guest » Sun May 24, 2009 6:46 pm

I was holding my large male and when he came out really far I noticed the tiniest little clear not quite white looking I think its a mite on him. It was crawling on his side almost by his legs that do not come out of the shell. I hoping I am explaining this good. He seems fine I looked at my other crab and did not see anything on him...I have two under right now so I could not look at them. I looked in the tat and did not see any bugs.

What should I do, is this harmless or not? Since I lost a crab yesterday for the first time I am very worried.

Try giving him a saltwater bath. If I am suspicious of something I put mine in a bath upside down so they have to pop out (they won't drown) and this will usually release anything from mites to poop and give them a good cleaning. Then I put them on a bowl with paper towels to dry a little. It could also be a gel leg and the bath might let you get a better look at it.

I gave both of the crabs that are not dug under a bath. They didn't seem to mind it...I think they actually liked it. I did not see anything in the water. So whatever i saw it wasn't there and I checked them both after the bath and I didn't see anything crawling on them. Thanks for the suggestion.
