**Were your mites from long term owned crabs or new crabs

I believe they were from my two new Es I got this week.

**What kind of substrate were you using when you got them

play sand, EE, and moss mixture (mainly sand though)

**what kind of top do you have on your tank

Until recently only glass, now glass over a screen lid w/ opening for heat lamp

**What is the main type of food you feed - fresh or commercial-describe if fresh the most type you feed (fruit/veggies/meat etc)

A little bit of everything, something different each night. I rotate between fresh fruits & veggies, seafood, dried seaweed, various commercial flake or freeze dried foods, breads, cereals, etc.

**What type of mite did you see (white/tan/black/red) and descrip if u can

Tiny, fast-moving white mites, the only kind Ive ever seen on crabs

**What time of year did you get the infestation

This week, mid September

**what room is the tank in (bed/dining etc)

kitchen

**is your home normally cool in summer/warm in winter or the opposite (like not all of us have central air that kind of thing)

very hot because central AC broke, just moved in though so havent experienced winter yet

**is your home normally "buggy" meaning you have lots of other bugs (spiders/centipedes/daddy long legs)

Ive seen tons of spiders (mostly black widows) since Ive been here but that is all

**do you own other pets, if so what kind

yes, two indoor cats and an indoor/outdoor dog, various fish

They were new crabs that were in isolation; the infestation was contained in a small kritter keeper.

**What kind of substrate were you using when you got them
Forest bedding.

The slatted plastic kritter keeper top with plastic wrap over half of the lid.

They got commercial hermit crab food.

**What type of mite did you see (white/tan/black/red) and descrip if u can
They were white, like little grains of rice.

**What time of year did you get the infestation
Spring.

Bedroom.

I decided not to give my new crab a bath, next thing I know the mites invade. I'm pretty sure it was the newbie, but the pet store's tank was extremely well taken care of...

Plexiglass lid (one large piece covering 5/6 of the tank, and a smaller piece for easily accessing the tank.

I feed commercial food mostly. AS a treat they occasionally recieve fruits and vegies...

White! I only witnessed White Mites during their short lived infestation

End of Summer

Warm in the summer / Cool in the winter

Spiders/Centipedes/Daddy Long Legs could be found years ago, but now Daddy long legs are the only bugs that really live outside the house, much less in it.

Cats, Dogs, Fish (Lol, yes the mites came from the fish!), and Hermit Crabs

they were new

well, i keep them in a critter carrier, so one of those tops. they would be in the 10 g tank, but i didn't have anything to put in it. i'm going to the store to get some today.

**What is the main type of food you feed - fresh or commercial-describe if fresh the most type you feed (fruit/veggies/meat etc) well, i gave them a cracker, and they really liked it, and i feed them commercial food.

they were little pesky black bugs, who seemed to be able to get into anything. they hummed around the tank as if looking for prey. (that was a bit exadurated lol)

late summer, early fall

yeah, it's cool in the summer, and warm in the winter. that's why they're in the bathroom right now because it stays warm in there. my mom keeps the house really cold.

so so i guess, i mean, we have some watter bugs and spiders for about a month every summer, but i got them waaaay after that was over.

Well, the newest crabs were bought about a month ago.

Eco Earth

Hinged glass lid

**What is the main type of food you feed - fresh or commercial-describe if fresh the most type you feed (fruit/veggies/meat etc)
Fruit, veggies, silversides, and they always have a shell filled with Sue's crabby meal that I make for them

**What type of mite did you see (white/tan/black/red) and descrip if u can
They seem to be grey

**What time of year did you get the infestation
Right now, the beginning of autumn

Dining room

First of all, hello again everybody. I haven't been around for a while so here is a quick recap:

*We moved from California to Utah and am currently living with my mother-in-law (help me)
*I am now a stay-at-home-dad
*We just bought a house and will be moving in by the end of the month!

Ok, on to the crabby question. I just discovered mites last night and want to tackle the problem right away. I have researched and read the care sheets and FAQ and think I am ready. My only question is this:
I have 8 crabs in a 20 gallon aquarium and the only ISO I have is a KK. Am I supposed to keep them all in the KK for 3 days while I bathe them several times a day to make sure all the mites are gone before I put them back in the deep cleaned tank?
If someone could advise me ASAP I would really appreciate it cuz I would really like to get started on it this morning.
