Don't know if this will help or not, but I had some Hermies arrive with Mites on before I knew to look for them(I was a newbie) and I had already introduced them to the main tank. The mites didn't survive, and I've never seen any since-apart from on new crabs-and then I bathe them off. They were all yellow/brown tiny grains, all over the crabs exo, but mainly on the shield, but running all over, not just on the joints. The sickest crabs always have the most on. I have half EE half sand. I've had lots arrive with them on since I've known to check for them, and never had an infestation in the Iso or main tank-although like I said, I do now bathe them when they arrive. Hope some of this might help you.

i just got mites recently, and i'm still pretty mad at them for invading my boys' tank, so i'm very happy to do this! :D

**i'd had them for fourteen months

**using sand and eco earth mixture

**plexiglass lid

**mostly fresh food: seeds, grains, nuts mixture; sometimes honey; fresh fruits; dried mealworms and shrimp for protein and exo health

**they were reddish mites, small head & center portion with a longer third segment. very short legs

**got them during mid-summer

**the tank is in my bedroom

**i do have central air, so my house is cold in the summer

**house usually has lots of spiders and some ants off and on

**only other pet is a (very adorable) dog

i think i'm very lucky because i caught them early on. they were located in the food bowl and one was in a water dish, floating around. ech. i still stripped and cleaned everything and bathed my boys, but didn't find any more. i was pretty strict about taking out their food during the day for around two months, until i found Sultan eating midday. now i leave the dry stuff in, but i still change it every day and take out any fruits or fresh meats every morning.
