Isopods
Ok I really wasn't interested in doing the bug thing! However, with moving to a pretty large size tank I think i will be needing a couple hundred extra pair of hands [FLUSHED FACE]
So what I want too do is order some and start raising a colony so I don't have to order them. I have no idea how to set up for them... suggestions?
All help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Isopods
I keep a breeder colony in a critter keeper that I transfer bugs from to my tanks. And they are pretty cute as far as bugs go

Re: Isopods
I think it's the legs that freak me out lol. But I'd prefer them to food mites and crab poo. So how many fit in there before you have to upgrade?

Re: Isopods
Don't they breed quickly? What all do you have in there? I read they are so more in the crustacean category than bug? That they have to have humidity and warmth?

Re: Isopods
They breed relatively fast. I have moss, oak leaves, and ee. I am struggling a bit with keeping there humidity up. I'm not sure about my species needing warmth- I found them all in my garden which is much colder than my house.

They totally are crustaceans.

I'll try to view them in that lightLadyJinglyJones wrote:They totally are crustaceans.

So there are no special requirements? Like metal is ok or no certain types of woods?

Re: Isopods
They like moisture & detritus. Keeping a side tote for a breeding population is a good idea. Have fun!

Re: Isopods
I've seen those mushroom decorations in pet stores. They're just decorative. They're made for reptile enclosures mostly, but should be safe fer crebs.

Re: Isopods
Like a cardboard shoebox? Wouldn't moisture cause it to break down?
