Tote Risks?
Tote Risks?
Hello! I’ve heard that plastic totes shouldn't be used long term because with the heat, chemicals like PVC and BPA can leak out. I just wanted to get some clarification on what you think of this?

i'll be watching this topic as well... i have been seriously thinking about it since that recent topic showed the pics of the 40 gal DIY. I have very little luck finding inexpensive larger tanks in my area.

I guess it's possible, but I don't think it's any more of a risk then the other plastics we may keep in our crabitats.
Plants, pools, air line, gauge for temp/humidity, food dishes, etc, etc.
Then again, if a large or multiple heat pads are needed and taped to the sides, that heat pushing through the plastic may do something over time..

I'd be more concerned about their food and water being stored and served in plastic, as that is direct contact and is being consumed. Honestly, plastics are unavoidable. It's all about what exposure you're comfortable with.
I would stick with food safe totes if really worried, though. All Sterilites are, which means leachable toxins are kept to a minimum.
