Species identification/pet store conditions

Post by Hermie225 » Mon Apr 09, 2018 5:01 pm

I was in my local pet shop today and noticed this sign for jumbo hermit crabs( pic to follow) with a different species name than the PP’s (Coenobita clypeatus).. Image
pagurus bernhardus. From what I found online it’s a hermit crab native of Europe, they looked the same as the others but I didn’t pick any up, they looked to be suffering enough Image.. never heard of pagurus bernhardus before, wondering if anyone else as?

Pagurus bernhardus is a marine hermit crab, so if by some chance they did have those they would be dead in a week or two being kept like land crabs. My guess is it's just a marketing ploy to somehow justify $30 for a jumbo PP crab that they probably paid $3 wholesale. Jerkwads.

^ Agree... probably just a mis-identified PP (or possibly an e). Don't be surprised if the staff don't know what it is one way or the other.

Quince the fat tailed gecko; Amazonian minnows; and now Harry & Luis, Bede & Aster, Chandra & Jace, Pax, & Piccolo, my adopted PPs.
RIP Vegita :(
