Crabbies not eating

Post by Misombra » Sat Oct 05, 2019 1:31 pm

So for a few days my little ones have been very quiet to the point I thought they were molting, no eating, water has been clean and no sight of any of them.
So I checked their hideout, none of them there, than the moss and all of them were there alive.

Not sure why they havent been eating or being active, I offered them a variety of food which they had always eaten, and they are now just quiet.

Yesterday I saw one moving around but then he hid, all I see is moss in the water (the cubbie is above the pools) so I know they are somewhat moving in there, but not much movement in the food or dirt in the water

They eat such small amounts it's hardly noticable. Especially the smaller ones. If they're alive, they're eating. They could be eating the moss or the sand or the bits of food in the sand. Is your temperature around 80 degrees?

It is probably around 75, I have an Ultratherm on the back and another on the side and it havent been able to hit 80, unless I turn the AC on the house off.

I checked on them again and the little one is out and about, the other 2 are still hanging in the moss

They do get more active if the temp is 80 degrees. Does the back ultratherm cover the entire back from the top of the subatrate to the top? If the heaters are the non stick type you can insulate over them. You can wrap cardboard with tin foil, shiny side out, and tape it to the back and/or sides.

That was going to be my question - what is your humidity and temperature. I personally recommend a minimum of 80/80.
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com

The humidity is pretty good, around 80 to 85 degrees F. You can feel it when opening the lid to feed them. I do have the Ultratherm wrap in foil and then cardboard box, I followed one of the post in here. The Ultratherm is even bigger than my tank on the side and it fits perfect from above the substrate to the top of the tank.
Honestly having so much covered and having another one on the side, I have no idea why the heat is not higher. I can feel the heat when I touch the glass from the inside.

On that note, I'm not sure if they didnt like I was ratting on them because after i posted, they been using the hamster wheel, even after they see me in the morning and a few times they had completely eaten their food. So I have no idea why the period of "absestism".

It is hitting cold weather, so our heat will be kicking out soon and I hope between that and their heater, they would have a Caribbean habitat. As of now they been ok and moving and had had successful molts, so when they were a bit MIA i started to worry.

Just to clarify, your humidity is 80-85 or your temperature?

Okay, that's great! I was only clarifying because your post said the "humidity is pretty good, around 80 to 85 degrees F". :)
