Pineapple plant

Post by Randomguy! » Mon Oct 26, 2020 3:09 pm

Hello, I want to plant the top of a pineapple in my crabitat. Since bromeliads are safe, I think a pineapple would be safe. I have an organic pineapple that I want to use. Would it still need to be quarantined before I add it, or could I add it right away?

Here is a picture of the pineapple.Image

Technically pineapple is a type of bromeliad, so it is safe to add. I'd honestly give it a good wash, and go from there.

Okay, should I quarantine it or could I add it after I rinse it?

Either way should be fine. I usually recommend a good quarantine to ensure no pests, and it will also allow it to root away from the crabs.

When I put it in the crabitat, would it be better to plant it directly in the substrate or in a pot?

Either way. I recommend pot for easy removal if the crabs go a little too ham on it. If you moistened the substrate with salt water, Id also pot it up as its likely not to like salt.
