i’m redecorating my tanks by adding egg crate and such
where is the best place to put my crabs while decorating?
last time i had to hold them off somewhere was when i moved the 55 gal to the basement i put them in my extra 10 gal with just a small layer of water for humidity purposes. they weren’t there that long. but sadly my crab Cece passed within a month after that experience was too stressful for her. (i had her for a while and she was a large crab that has molted with me before so this was the only thing i think could’ve done it) i felt bad about it and now i’m worried to stress any of them out again.
i could throw them in a ten gal and decor from their tank for the time to make them feel more at home. would that be something that could work??

Re: temporary holding spot
If you are only redecorating, you might be able to work around them. But if you're using silicone or doing anything that might endanger them, you can move them to a holding tank. Depending on how long they are in that holding tank will determine the conditions you need to keep it at. I've always just done a box with some damp paper towels for anything less than a day. Crabs are more resilient than we give them credit for. I'm sorry you lost your other crab, I can't say for sure what caused it, but stress of a new environment could have been in involved.

Re: temporary holding spot
I just pop them someplace where they physically can't bother each other much, like a small tank filled with their old moss or plastic plants.
