The last jumbo I pity purchased had me convinced he was dead. There was a piled body and brown goo, and curly can attest that I was freaking out privately! They can look downright scary when underground. It was a good reminder that they don't always behave textbook.
I don't think your dogs had anything to do with your issues. Years ago I rescued a ton of crabs and no amount of noise or vibration had an effect on survival. My cats were constantly bouncing the tanks, and I would vacuum, and dance around, without a second thought. Age, health and pre-adoption/purchase stress were the factors that mattered.
If you ever get spooked over losses, I suggest doing a substrate change. I can never be sure if it was just coincidence, but whenever I had a run of bad luck I'd start fresh and the deaths would immediately stop. Even though everything looked and smelled good, it's hard to know what is going on in terms of bacterial growth and contamination, and being a closed system there's no way for things to refresh on their own.

Thank you again for the reassurances. I still have no idea about the other 2 but the sub is less than a year old so I don't think that's an issue but I will keep it in mind for the future.
It's always a gamble I suppose to make the decision to intervene or decide to let nature take its course and really easy in hindsight to criticize your choice. I never stopped to consider that there was no action on my part that would have guaranteed his survival. I have to remember that in the future.
