new crab not moving, still alive

Post by ThePinkHermit » Tue Mar 29, 2022 6:01 pm

hi everyone! ive had two newbies in a quarantine tank for a few days and one immediately went deep in the dirt and the other hasn't moved much at all, its still alive and i have the right humidity, temp, food, waters, and shells. i gave it fruit for some sugars and energy but when it moves it looks like its shell is too heavy for it, it moves weakly but otherwise seems fine. no exiting the shell or anything. any thoughts on what to do?

Do you have any natural peanut butter, honey, or bee pollen? Those can give your crabby a boost.

Also, do you have a few lighter shells for him to change into?

i have a bunch of smaller shells and i will try the peanutbutter, i realized shes missing the tip of one of her claws so she could be recovering from a bad molt, might take her tank mate who is doing well and put him in the big tank to give her room to recover. she poked out when i moved her to water

Do not dig up the crab who has dug under - he/she may be molting and you should not disturb them.

yes there bigger and smaller shells for both of them, she looks like shes wearing the right size and i put her in a dish in the tank with honey mixed with the regular stuff, along with a stick to help her out if she needs it, fingers crossed 🤞 she seems otherwise fine just sits there unmoving, i checked for mites and theyre both clear

hes been up and down and is pretty active, hasnt dug under for long periods of time and is very bright in color, i dont think hes due for a molt for a while. ill only take him out if hes already on the surface tho no worries!

she fell out of her shell, i thought she was dead but she was moving very minimally, i reshelled her into a slightly larger shell and isolated her in a container with the a bit of clean and safe water on the bottom. there was a hole in her back making me think shes surface molting?
