Can hermit crab tanks be with same room as a cat litter box? My crab got sick. He's doing better the last day or so but I'm trying to figure out why he looked dead and dropped his legs.
Can crabs have individual peanut allergies?
Can being in the same room as a catbox harm them?

No, crabs don't have food allergies.
My tank isn't in the same room, but I have litter boxes in the rooms on either side, and never close the room the tank is in. I can't think of any reason why the tank and litter box shouldn't be in the same room.

Thank you. That's a relief. I'm just driving myself nuts trying to figure out why he got sick.

Dropping legs is a sign of severe stress and lack of proper conditions. What is your tank setup like? What is his diet like?

Or it could be due to conditions that the crab was in prior to the poster getting it. It may not have anything to do with what the current conditions are.

Right, it could be. Best to make sure everything is okay so the crab has the best possible chance at living a healthy life.curlysister wrote: ↑Sun Jul 31, 2022 11:47 pmOr it could be due to conditions that the crab was in prior to the poster getting it. Update.
He's doing much better now. I think the problem could have been that my hydrometer was off by 10. I thought the humidity was at 80 but it was at 70. Could that have been it?

70% isn't that bad, while low, its not exactly problematic. If it was continuously below 70%, or for large durations below 70%, then yes.
Otherwise, it sounds like PPS if your tank is setup in accordance to the guides in the FAQ. PPS can usually hail from prolonged exposure to sub-standard conditions, and at this point in time, not much can be done other than monitor, ensure tank conditions are ideal and hope that he bounces back with good care!
