is this normal?

Post by hermitsssss » Sat Jun 01, 2024 1:06 pm

Imageone of my heermit crabs, august, will only sit in one corner of the tank-when i move him- next think i know- he is right back over in that corner. he just olted and changed shells- but i dont think that has anything to do with this. is he looking at her reflection? is she depressed? im confused lol

does anyone have an opinion on what is going on here?! has this happened before with any of your crabbies?

edit- i took them outside, they played a bit, and i rearanged the tank- but he still goes to the same spot... im getting worried- she just kinda sits heir with her legs foreward- but not out of her

they can definitely like certain spots! They are also probably scared of you. Please stop forcefully moving them. When people handle their crabs safely, they let the crabs crawl onto them so as to give crabs teh choice, and also only do it when there is warm and humid conditions. It sounds like perhaps your crabs are new - definitely dont even try to handle them until theyve all molted at least once, and/or have lived with you free of forecful handling for at least a year. Even after that may take longer for them to learn to be comfortable enough to come to you through the glass much less to crawl onto your hand. I know it can be hard to have your pets scared of you but hang in there! My crabs are still getting used to me too so you're not alone!
