Sponges out of water

So I know sponges when in water get a lot of bacteria but I saw crab central station have sponge and it was okay because it was out of the water so just let me know

Sponges harbor bacteria when in water.
Sponges put in dry for crabs to munch on, don't harbor bacteria.
