Maybe need another friend?

Post by kath_p07 » Fri Aug 30, 2024 8:31 am

Hello, im new to crabs and new here as well and we have been watching a lot of videos and reading a whole lot about how to care for our babies, Honey and Hazel but there's one question I can't seen to find answer online. I understand crabs are social that's why there needs to be more than one and we got 2 on a 20 gallon tank as recommended but as soon as we got our crabbies, Honey went down molting the next day and she has been molting for 3+ weeks, Hazel stayed out for about 2.5 weeks alone but now has also gone down molting. I'm afraid Honey, who is much smaller than Hazel will come out and be all alone for a long time with no one to socialize. I am not looking to upgrade my tank right now since we just got it but I was wondering if maybe I should get another crab. To keep whoever is not molting company. Would it be ok to have 3 crabs in a 20 gallon tank?

Honey will be okay while Hazel is gone, if you bought a new crab every time only one was up you’d have an entire colony. Some crabs even do okay alone permanently

To answer your question though, a 20 can support three smalls okay but will require an upgrade after a few years

Thank you for your answer. For sure this was helpful as I was getting worried about the one poor crab that's alone.
