Crab chirping for no reason

Post by Alexisr.17 » Tue Apr 29, 2025 7:20 pm

Hello
So I adopted two hermit crabs from someone about 3 months back, they came from worse then pet store conditions, but both have recovered! (Yay! :cheer: )
Now the issues. After molting in a 55 gallon tank, there was some aggression from sangria (san), so she and her buddy Tyrian were moved to an exo terra 30 gallon tank to chill out
Except now sangria is chirping. I know that's a BAD thing. The only problem is that 1, tyrian was NOWHERE near her, and she was sitting on the highest point of the tank in the shell shop, fully in her shell, but nothing was wrong
Is she doing it for attention? Because when the aggression came, one of my others midnight (midi), was chirping hence the two were seperated. But is that maybe why sangria is chirping? For attention? I went and picked her up and handled her to inspect for any damage, but since tyrian has moved tanks, there NO REASON for her to be chirping...
Sorry just really worried!

We have no idea the breed she is, she has the colorful flat shell closing door, and a very purple pincher, but the eyes are a mix of es/pps. I've heard Es like to chirp, hence the hesitation, but still! I'm in canada if that helps at all!

One of my sister's friends had a crab that picked up a shell and yelled at it for about an hour then put it down and never did it again.
