Hello I recently rescued a hermit crab and honestly I know nothing about them but I could not leave him with his current owners, they treated him so badly. At first i wad terrified of him but know I'm surprisingly attached to him. He had every thing he news now except a friend. My crab Sebastian is the tiniest thing, probably no bigger than a hard boiled egg yolk. I want to get him a friend but the only other hermit crabs around are 10x bigger than him. So my question is can I have a tiny crab with a jumbo one without having to worry about them hurting my little one? Sebastian does not do anything at all and in hoping a friend will help him get active! Please help and thank you !

Well, I would say it depends if you can supply the proper needs for a jumbo hermit crab! Otherwise, I believe it would be risky, but okay!

Thank you so much for getting back to me .
Do you think I should play it safe and try to get some hermit crabs around his size?

I have jumbos's (softball size) mixed with marble sized crabs. They get along great. In fact the little ones have learned to just move out of the way since the jumbo's kinda trample them cause they are so big.... As long as a you have a proper setup and they get fed a well balanced diet, all will be good.

I agree with Daws...I also have mixed crabs with no issues.

Thank you all I'm going to try getting a jumbo, I just don't want him to be alone anymore. I'm hopefully I can find little ones later on.
Does anyone know where I can get some small hermits?

There are far too many that need to be adopted. I would try looking around this site for some to adopt. You can try looking in your area or by posting an adoptee (wanted) ad. You could also try searching on Craigslist... I highly encourage adopting vs purchasing. This reduces the risk of PPS - Post Purchase Syndrome.

Please know that with a jumbo you need a minimum tank size of 75 gallons

My biggest guy is best buds with one of my smallest. They are always chillin together. The lil guy often sits on top of the big guys shell. He's not jumbo but wayyy bigger then the lil one.

As long as you can provide the space for a larger crab, there shouldn't be a problem with mixed sizes. In fact, it is a benefit as it reduces the likelihood of fighting over shells since they need different size shells.
I will also suck it the vote for adoption, rather than a new purchase.
