Hi guys!
How does everyone 'prep' any brand new crabitat decor (plastic plants. Hides etc) before adding them into the tank please?
Cheers Wendy x

I boil them (and use saltwater for anything natural to prevent mould growth) and either allow them to air dry or bake them at a low temperature

I sometimes use a mix of vinegar and water to wash, then rinse really well with RO water.

Don't boil plastic! Heating it can release chemicals and possibly melt it.

Hi thanks invaluable advice. I have 2 items and have properly prepared them as above however they have a faint smell still - both suitable for aquariums - are they safe to use do you think?

Thanks x

They should be. Most aquarium safe plastics have quite the odor to them.

I made that mistake with a log hide. It smelled like chemicals for a few days(I kept it out of the tank), then smelled fine so I put it in the tank.
