for my bendy branch i used green embroidery string to hold the leaves around it. i just tied knots every seven inches or so. i’ve seen that people always say just jute, but is embroidery string safe in small portions like this?

Most often embroidery floss is made of 6 strands of dyed cotton. Sometimes it can be made of silk, linen, or rayon--all of which would be dyed to the desired color. Rayon is a man-made fiber made from mostly bamboo cellulose.

I think the natural fibers would be okay, but I'm unsure of the dyes.

The only worry I would have is with the dyes. I've used white embroidery string before since it's just bleached cotton.

I had this same question and google led me to many different answers but I finally decided to use non dyed hemp string on the climbing structure I made for my hermies becuz it's all natural and I read somewhere that they will sometimes try to eat or pick at it and felt hemp would be the safest for them if they decided to do that. There are quite a few natural options if you chose to go that route though so hemp was just the option I went with. Hope your hermies are thriving
