Fungus??

Post by CrabDad » Thu Apr 01, 2021 3:14 pm

So I have noticed that I get a white fluffy "mold" on food after if has been in the crabitat for two days, I usually feed fresh every other day. This "mold" is like spider silk moving out in one direction for about an inch... it is the weirdest thing I have ever seen, but I just chalked it up to the humidity of the tank. It never effected any of the decor, only the food. Well, recently I took a lot of the surface decor out and placed it in boiling salt water as I had read here that others do this to "clean" their decor items and after I placed a piece of wood back in the tank, it EXPLODED in this same white stuff all over it?? It was less than 24 hours! I took it out, washed it off and set it in the sun to get REALLY dry and have placed it back in the tank. any idea what this stuff is?
BTW three crabs in a 30 tall one up two down right now...
TIA

it just sounds like mold. happens a lot if you the branch was wet when you put it in, that’s probably why. it’s just from humidity like you said. from my knowledge there isn’t a lot of ways to prevent it. just change food out more often and see if that helps
