So I have a friend just back from the Maldives. Knowing I love crabs he took a couple of (bad) pics for me. I have narrowed it down to probably ruggies, but also found info that pseudorugusa are found there. Curious if anyone can tell what the main difference is, or has any idea what would live there.

These had oval eyes with brown stalks, antennae a combo of blue and orange, and it looks like the claw is more straight along the bottom. Unfortunately they were tiny (about 3/4 inch total) so he could not see or photo a lot of detail. bodies pretty much white all over. And even worse I can't seem to attach the pics.

But maybe someone has been there and knows what they are?

According to

P. Hogarth , F. Gherardi & P. A. McLaughlin (1998) Hermit crabs (Crustacea Decapoda Anomura) of the Maldives with the description of a new species of Catapagurus A. Milne Edwards 1880, Tropical Zoology, 11:1, 149-175, DOI: 10.1080/03946975.1998.10539358

It would be Ruggies. Only those, straws and indos are found there.
