Should I dig?
Should I dig?
I've finally started building my new 65 gallon. I've mixed the substrate yesterday and will have the final parts to assemble next weekend.
My crabs are currently in a 29 gallon. The problem is I need the heater from that tank. There are 4 crabs in the tank, three are up, but I haven't seen the 4th in 6+ months. The crab is only the medium large range so it shouldn't take this long to molt. I fear it is dead, though I never smelled anything off.
What's your opinion on if I should dig for it?
I was going to buy a second heater and give it more time, but the size I need is out of stock.

Re: Should I dig?
NEVER dig for your crabs unless there is an emergency. I have a crab that’s around that size that took 7 months to molt. You have to just be patient, I’m sure your crab will come up in the next few months. I was once in that situation what I did was just use some extra heat mats but if you don’t have any you will need to order one. There is many brands of heat pads try looking on Amazon if you haven’t already, they have some good ones.

Is my wife killing me for having two tanks an emergency?
I was hoping to use an 11x36 ultratherm. Maybe I can use two smaller ultratherms. Maybe I can create a heat gradient.

I get it but not an emergency You could try but make sure you still have a thermometer (and hygrometer) in there to make sure it is getting warm enough.

I'll wait it out a couple months. Going to order 2x 11x17s so I can get the other 3 relocated while they are up. There's no way they are going to stay at a decent temp without a heater. My family would revolt if I kept the house that warm.Hermielover121 wrote:I get it but not an emergency You could try but make sure you still have a thermometer (and hygrometer) in there to make sure it is getting warm enough.
