is it safe to put a money tree in my hermit crab tank?
I will preface this by saying I am new to owning hermit crabs and may not have the most helpful answer, but as someone who generally knows animals as well as plants. I would say it should be fine, for the crabs. Pachira aquatica, from what I am able to gather, dont contain toxins, but have been known to upset the stomachs of animals that consume it. Your crabs should be smart enough to realize this(id be surprised if they tried to eat it anyway).
I think the better question, is will your money tree survive the environmental conditions of a crabitat. And to that I would say its unlikely. They, like most plants, need soil, and soil that does not remain constantly wet. Not a lot of plants can survive the humidity levels and substrate, not to mention the disruptions of the crabs themselves. It may be better to go with another plant. if your hearts set on it, and you dont mind risking loosing your tree to root rot, why not try it. Make sure you have a proper light source and enough ventilation to allow an exchange of oxygen(you should have this anyway)Monitor the plant for signs of wilting and see how it does.
