HCA: Hermit Crab Association

Hello,
So my hermit crab, Alvin, was a deep read color with a large purple pincher. He “vanished” for several days, I assumed he molted. Now he seems like different color everyday. Some days he seems pale blue/purple then some days he seems more red. What is going on?

How many crabs do you have? It's possible you are seeing your other crabs and assuming it's him.

He could be shifting colors, and they can be dull before a molt and vibrant after, although I’m not sure how common it is to have wild swings like yours.

Could it be changes in light, or perhaps another crab altogether? Are you able to get pictures?
