HCA: Hermit Crab Association

Hello,

I've tried searching but cannot seem to find any advice. I have had 2 hermit crabs for about 2 months now. About 2 weeks ago I noticed a foul fish smell coming from their tank. I dumped out all of their sand and scrubbed their tank. I replaced the sand and they still smell horrible. Could it be their food? Do they need new shells? I would appreciate any help or suggestions I can get.

If both of them are still alive it could be their food.
If you feed them things that can spoil quickly you could put it out in the night and take it out in the morning.

Could it also be rotting wood pieces?

My wife has been leaving the food out for a few days. We will try this. Thanks so much!
