How to handle crab death?

Hi,
I have had my crab over a year now and he's only just molted about two weeks ago. On Monday, I woke up to find him out of his shell and eating from the food bowl. I carefully removed him from the tank and to one with various shells and salt water as well. He was fine and moving throughout the night, however movement ceased yesterday. He did not have an odor to him so I had high hopes still however, today I noticed a smell and I fear this means he has died. I'm currently in a dorm that I share with others so I'm unable to bury him here or freeze him as I've seen others here recommend but I don't want to give him a trash can burial. I'm not sure what to do? He's my little buddy and doing so doesn't feel right but I don't live in this state. Does anyone have any advice?
