Hermit Crab Acting sluggish after loosing big claw

Post by y42bG » Fri Jan 10, 2025 12:29 am

For context I just recently bought 3 crabs from a pet store near me. I am doing the usual stuff to get them acquainted to their new home. The crab acting sluggish was in a fight with the slightly larger one (I think, not 100% sure. There are however pinch marks on the big ones claws) its big claw was on the ground when I woke up and I put it in another cage. All day it has been just standing in one place and not doing much. It doesn't seem to be eating. I saw it drink but that's about it.

I'm wondering If I should put it back in the tank with the other crabs. I don't have a second thermometer for the second tank and I am worried.

If a crab has lost it's large pincher, I would consider keeping it isolated from the other crabs.
Were they fighting over shells? How many extras do you have in the tank?
Were they fighting over food? What do you have in the tank for food?
What size tank do you have them in?

10 Gallon tank I moved that crab to the 5 gallon. I just bought them 4 days ago and didn't buy any of the shells at the store as they were painted. I ordered some online but they haven't got here. I don't have a salt water bath set up yet but there is plenty of food. But I did find the claw next to the food bowl.

I only have one thermometer right now and I took it out of the big tank to monitor the crab that is barley moving. he would just stand and not move.
