Earthworms
Would it be okay to keep earthworms in my hermit crab tank???
Just a new crabber trying to take the best care of her crabs she can. :)

Re: Earthworms
I believe earthworms would be safe, as long as you get them from somewhere without pesticides or fertilizers. They would be good for your hermit crabs diet as well! Not sure about molting crabs and stuff though… i think it would be fine though.

Re: Earthworms
Earthworms don’t like salt, so if your substrate is treated with salt or if there is any splashing from the saltwater dish those areas will be no-gos

Thank you! Do you mean that the crabs would catch and eat the worms?!Hermitsandplants wrote: ↑Tue Mar 18, 2025 3:29 pmI believe earthworms would be safe, as long as you get them from somewhere without pesticides or fertilizers. Thank you! I didn't think about that.JoeHermits wrote: ↑Tue Mar 18, 2025 10:22 pmEarthworms don’t like salt, so if your substrate is treated with salt or if there is any splashing from the saltwater dish those areas will be no-gos
I didn't add any salt to the substrate, and the saltwater usually doesn't spill/splash much. I think it should be fine...

they might, but if the worms die the hermits will likely munch on the carcassC: ClareCrabOwner :) wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 8:51 amThank you! Do you mean that the crabs would catch and eat the worms?!

Oh, okay! Thank you. I think I'll add a couple worms, and if they don't like the cage at least they'll be crab food!
