What salt solution is available in Australia

Post by afggi » Mon Aug 07, 2017 5:28 am

What is the best salt (for the saltwater) that is available in Australia? I found some hermit crab salts, but I heard they are not too good to use.
If you live in Australia, what type do you use and where did you get it?

Are these any good??? (°▽°)

Search for Instant Ocean by Seachem. I don't know if they have it (I think so) but it's really the best.

I second this... you may be able to order it from somewhere but I'm not sure what shipping charges would be involved.

Sorry Seachem doesn't make it. I was thinking of Prime, which is a good declorinator. Just search for Instant Ocean.

Hey,
I found an API aquarium salt but it's for freshwater fish.

API for freshwater fish sadly doesn't fit the bill. I wonder if @aussieJJdude could help out?

I'm in Australia and had the same problem as you! I use Red Sea now, works pretty well as far as I can tell

Definately wait for other Aussies to chime in with what they use to see if there might be other options. I know the stuff is crazy expensive compared to what we would pay in the US. :/

Instant ocean for me is absolutely rubbish for the price. I have use aquaone sea salt in the past, but found it to not mix as well as i wanted it and depending on the source can be expensive (most of the time online was cheaper, however some fish shops in the greater Melbourne region would have it at a good price but due to distance, hard to acess). Red sea is a good alternative to have, since now days most stores seem to have it.
Im currently using 'Blue Treasure' salt, from ebay. Comes in a large bucket and love it, mixes great and for the size very cost effective. I believe Renroc used red sea, but then again she might source marine salt water from local beaches, which ive heard of many aussie crabbers do with careful screening and UV filtration.

Your looking to purchase salt suitable for marine aquariums, so anything else is a no go!

I'm gonna check out different kinds of aquarium salts to see if I can find something affordable.

FYI, not aquarium.. MARINE. aquarium salts are basically glorified table salts.

I've been able to get Ocean Pure and Red Sea Salt quite easily. The latest stuff I have is Tropic Marin which has German and English on the box.
Crazy crab lady with 1 male raised in captivity who is now 7 yrs old (Dec 23) and a 2 females I've added from rehoming or adoptions to add to my breeding colony.
